Keeper Security launches biometric login with passkeys

Keeper Security has introduced biometric login with passkeys on its Chrome and Edge browser extension and Keeper Commander CLI, marking a first in the cybersecurity industry. The update allows users to access their Keeper Vault using biometrics or PINs without typing passwords, offering a more secure and seamless login experience. It is compatible with Windows devices through Windows Hello and Mac devices via Touch ID, with biometric data stored only on the user’s device for maximum privacy.

Moving towards passwordless authentication

Passkeys are FIDO-based authentication credentials designed to replace traditional passwords with phishing-resistant, passwordless sign-ins. Instead of typing usernames, passwords or additional factors, users can log in with the same method they use to unlock their device, such as fingerprint or facial recognition. The unique, device-bound credentials are protected cryptographically, making them both simpler and more secure than conventional logins.

By supporting FIDO2 and WebAuthn protocols, Keeper ensures a standardised and secure experience across browsers and devices. The functionality also extends to Keeper Commander, the company’s command-line and SDK interface, giving IT teams and developers access to the same passwordless authentication options.

Enhancing enterprise adoption

Keeper’s new implementation works across Chromium-based browsers and major platforms, ensuring broad usability. Windows Hello on Windows 11 and Apple’s Touch ID on macOS are among the supported authentication methods, offering users a consistent and secure login process.

The company is a long-standing member of the FIDO Alliance, which advocates for moving beyond passwords towards more secure, open standards. This update reflects that goal by enabling stronger, device-based sign-ins that are easier for both individuals and IT teams to manage.

According to Keeper’s Insight Report: Navigating a Hybrid Authentication Landscape, 80% of organisations already use or plan to adopt passkeys to defend against threats like phishing and credential stuffing. However, many face challenges managing hybrid systems that mix passwords with passwordless methods. Keeper’s new support for FIDO2 standards helps simplify this shift by offering scalable, secure solutions across multiple platforms.

Expanding passkey management

Beyond enabling login, Keeper also provides passkey creation, storage and autofill across browsers, devices and operating systems. Its cross-platform passkey management is available through the browser extension, mobile apps, desktop and web vault, as well as the Keeper Commander CLI. This means users can store and autofill passkeys for accessing their Keeper Vault or logging in to supported apps and websites, eliminating the need for passwords or additional factors.

With this update, Keeper continues to build on its zero-trust and zero-knowledge security approach. By delivering passwordless access backed by FIDO2 standards, the company strengthens protection against modern cyber threats while reducing friction for end users.
