Building membership, partnership, goals of Cape Cod Technology Council

Michael White, with a background in technology and management, is the new executive director of the Cape Cod Technology Council and will guide strategic planning, according to Board President Eugene Curry.

The planning process will help the Council meet challenges with building membership and making the membership-based non profit more relevant to the community, Curry said in a telephone interview Jan. 22.

“We’re really pleased to have Michael onboard,” Curry said. “He has a background in technology and nonprofit management. So far, he’s demonstrated himself to be a very capable executive director, and I think he’ll take us in a good direction.”

Founded in 1996, the Council’s mission is to promote technology, education and economic development on Cape Cod, the Islands, and southeastern Massachusetts. The organization does this through advocacy and research.

Cape Cod Technology Council's outgoing executive director Stephen Smith, left, hands over leadership to Michael White, who was named to the post in December.

Curry said the Council helped form a consortium with the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and Connect Cape Cod, an online resource and information center. They supported the creation of the nonprofit technology company OpenCape, and are a member of the SmarterCape Partnership.

The Council worked with OpenCape to get better information to the Massachusetts Broadband Institute when they were determining how to distribute Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program funds.
